A lot of these were recorded local to my childhood home. The gentleman doing thr voice work also did work for a local radio station. His voice was very faniliar as a result. The voice of the K-Mart guy being on the radio seemed perfectly normal to me. Now I know that's just an artifact of where I grew up.

There was a smaller thread several years before that one too:

If this intrigues you, much of the music is on the Attention KMart Shoppers channel on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0ZhOr_CxpX5uGraLexm4Zg

I absolutely love the Christmas editions https://archive.org/details/S.S.KresgeChristmasBackgroundMus...

The older records seem to be easily found under this user https://archive.org/details/@theugster

Just ffwd through a few. Very calming and interesting.

It reminds me a lot of the TOMT subreddit. People are always posting production quality song recordings that just 'dont exist.'

Just a stark reminder of how much art and music are ephemeral.

This is fantastic. While the hits of the decades are saved, often the crust & effluvia is discarded.

Take for example, the HBO shorts that filled the odd minutes between the hours when movies would start, rather then starting them back-to-back (or compressing/editing the film to end on an hour). A few of these gems are on YouTube, but the rest have been lost. Fortunately some people saved long VHS recordings of the inbetween moments.

There's an earlier album that also sampled the archive I'm fond of[1], dipping in and out of a rather atmospheric and mellow tone. Golden Time being a favorite track.
