I don’t think this is really headline newsworthy anymore. It’s like reading a headline saying the sky’s blue.
The problem is that the Capitol Riots represent the extreme 1/2 of ALL America. Not just the ones below the mason Dixon. ALL America. That suggests 1/2 the capitol police (and seemingly the few in prominent leadership roles) saw this as that rowdy kin coming over for dinner. Obnoxious, but they’re kin and harmless.
I think it shocked them when they realized the “movement” they believed in contained the same flaws they where belligerently screaming was wrong with the “other side”. No one wants to see that touchy feely uncle Larry is actually the same monster as the Larry guy that’s now in jail for rape.
They had blinders on and they where rudely awakened.
I don’t think America has an extreme half, and to say so is a gross over generalization. Those expressing violence are limited to a very small but _extreme_ minority. Not all republicans support trump, very few who support trump support violence.
Everyone wants a scape goat and when the brass hits the tax, all the same people that trumpeted messaging by retweeting, reposting and spreading bad information simply because it reinforced their echo chambers... those same people are the very first to place blame outside themselves.
“Oh no, I didn’t MEAN for this!! This isn’t who we are!!! Goodness gracious me!” The hypocrisy is disgusting and I say that even about people I love and care for (many of whom are in the “trumper” crowd).
It may not have been 1/2 of America kicking in doors with handguns and pipe bombs, but it certainly doesn’t make them innocent.
Didn’t some girl just go to jail recently because a kid she bullied, berated him telling him to kill himself, and he finally did. What is the difference here exactly?
I hate to generalize by doing this, but to me, Republicans are all to blame for the situation they’re in now and the brokenness it’s caused. Every. Single. One.
We all are to some degree, but Republicans especially.

Actually there were very few people rioting. The vast majority of the people were peacefully demonstrating when a few violent individuals took the opportunity to act contrary to the purpose of the demonstration.
the vast majority didn't know what was happening because they weren't even at the Capitol. According to the videos I have seen, there were people blocking the chokepoints so that others couldn't interfere with the ones who were breaching the door.
