Also 1440p was largely ignored, so in a jump from 1080p to 4K there's a massive increase in demand from the hardware. And at the same time, we want better refresh rates than ever. 4 times the pixels and 3 times the frames isn't easy!
I recently moved from 1080p 16:9 at 60Hz to 1440p 21:9 at 160Hz. 6 times the amount of pixel/frames. One of the reasons why performance isn't stellar even though I bought 3080 at the same time. Most games can't run anywhere near 160 fps.
